The MSBA is an innovative, interdisciplinary program that provides students with the necessary statistical and analytical skills to pursue an analytics career in industries such as Finance, Insurance, Professional Services and even Information Technology. Consistent with Franklin’s mission of reaching the broadest possible community of learners, the program will be designed for the working adult, with courses offered primarily online.
Use real-world scenarios to see how data strategically impacts business decisions
Computational and statistical techniques, including knowledge of business, are needed to function at a high level in today’s technology-driven work environments. As a master’s student in business analytics, you’ll take courses in marketing management, financial decision modeling and business analytics strategy that help you understand the role of big data in planning and operations. You’ll analyze market data to guide management decisions and use marketing analytics to create and model scenarios in order to measure return on investment and campaign effectiveness. Using financial management theories, strategies and practice, you’ll discover the impact of financial decisions through the analysis of financial statements, cash budgeting, cost of capital determination, capital budgeting and capital structure choices.
In the business analytics strategy course, you use what you learned in the marketing and finance courses as a starting point to develop an analytics strategy for a business of your choice. Throughout the course case studies and problem-based learning approaches will illustrate options for you to consider as you shape your ultimate strategy.
The Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program is designed to equip students with the statistical and analytical skills needed to pursue a career in a fast-growing field. Students are trained in topics that include Database Management; Data Analytics; Data Visualization and Presentation; Big Data Analytics; Marketing Management and Analytics; Financial Decision Modeling; and Business Strategy. Students will learn the tools and techniques needed to analyze business-related data including descriptive, predictive, prescriptive and diagnostic data. They will learn to apply analytics across a wide range of industries and functions including finance, insurance, retail and healthcare.

Students in the Computer and Information Sciences Majors may be required to purchase hardware and/or software with capabilities greater than the standard University technology requirements. There will be software requirements beyond the standard Microsoft Office software, such as software development environments, operating systems, virtualization environments and tools, Web site development and business process documentation tools that will be used in various courses. Students should check the Technology Requirements section of the Academic Bulletin and/or the Course Schedule for the requirements relevant for Computer and Information Sciences majors to ensure they have, and are familiar with, the requisite hardware and software. Courses with specific hardware and software requirements are detailed in the course syllabus under the "Required Materials" section.
