Juan L. Perez
Singer songwriter/Producer. Born August 4, 1982, in Richmond California. Having a family of musicians and composers, Juan learned to sing at the age of 4 and play the piano at the age of 7. As a teenager Juan got his start playing and singing in his local catholic church where his father worked as a deacon preaching the gospel, while at night he played with his uncle’s local band where he learned to play traditional Mexican music, Latin Jazz, and Blues.
While in High School, Juan got the chance to record and learn to produce Hip-hop music under the instruction of Preston Pinkney. There he was able to spread his wings, create music and sing hooks for various artists.
Having a diverse musical background and a place to create, Juan developed his sound combining Hip-hop, Reggae, Soul, Latin Jazz, and Rock. This unique blend of sounds crossed barriers without regard to age or race, allowing Juan to play at Yoshi’s at the age of 18 playing with a band called “Spectrum”, which included styles of Salsa, Rock, and Jazz.
Having composed songs from the age of 14, Juan began his own venture known as the Brown Soul Project and at same time gave his life to the Lord and discovered the art of Gospel music, under the instruction of his friend and mentor Silvester Henderson.
This was the only thing missing, influenced by Eddie Palmieri, Bob Marley, James Cleveland, Donnie Hathaway, Stevie wonder, The Beatles, D’angelo, Rafael Sadiq, and many many more, Juan plans on taking the Brown Soul Project to a whole new level!!!!
